30 Jan 2008 - Mason performs her first Cheer and Dance routine.
As most of you know, Mason has taken an extreme interest in being a cheerleader. She attended a Cheer Clinic and learned her first cheer and dance. She got to perform her routine at the half time basket ball game. We were so proud of her ability to have fun with it, not take it so seriously, and show no sign of nervousness. She was definitely camera ready and made sure to pose for the camera. Enjoy the video below.

Mason's 1st Cheer Routine

Update on Mason and karate. She is no longer in karate. Long story, but its how kids go....
11 Dec 2007 - Mason becomes part of the Leadership Program
Today Mason got her blue leadership uniform. She was very excited and I was extremely happy for her. She's 4 but she can hang with the older kids. In the leadership program she learns more karate, gets to use weapons, and gets more training. I just can't imagine what she will be like when she finsihes the program......:)
16 Nov 2007 - Mason gets her Blue Belt!

This time Mason had to perform her form routine by herself. She got it almost perfectly! Mr. T always asks the kids about what they want to be when they grow up...Today was the first day she said "I want to be a black belt". Interesting enough, I got to hold a board for Mason's favorite friend at karate. He's 5 and it took him 3 times to finally break that board, but he was determined and he did it!

Charisma - "Don't just act like a leader, be a leader!"
10 Nov 2007 - Karate Super Show
Mason took home 2 bronze medals and a trophy. The Super Show had the kids competing in different divisons and Mason competed in Fitness and Form. She was the only girl in the 3 to 5 year olds. In the fitness catagory, she did sit-ups, push-ups, and kicking squats. In the form, she did the "Charisma". She first had to introduce herself and then perform. We are very proud of our future black belt!

9 Nov 2007 - Mason starts gymnastics
We registered her for gymnastics. Prior to looking at gymnastic schools, Mason had started telling me about her desire to be a cheerleader....<insert crash sound>. I'm not sure why we were shocked by the sudden interest to be a cheerleader. So for the last 2 weeks she has talked non-stop about being a cheerleader. She has given us a run-down of some of the cheers that cheerleaders do including a pyramid stance along with a flying demonstration of how a cheerleader is thrown into the air and caught. Nice enough we have comfy couches for her to demo her acrobatic skills. Her first day at gymnastics proved to me how competitive Mason is. She kept trying to get all of the instructor's attention and kept racing the other girl in the class to be the first to do the exercises. Regardless, she was beside herself in her gymnastic get-up.....I had no idea how expensive those get-ups are.

24 Sept 07-Monday

Today she took her first class as an orange belt. Just the change in maturity from when she first started is very obvious. Very focused this time around. Still somewhat of a clown..but what can you expect from a 4 year old...watch out Jet Li....I have a fierce warrior in the making.

21 Sept 2007 - Mason gets her Orange Belt!

My stinker earned her Orange Belt. It was very cute as she pumped the belt in the air like a prize she had just won. If you were to flashback to when she first started, you wouldn't think this was the same girl who was telling me she hated karate after I had signed an 11 month contract.....

Every week she seems to really enjoy the physical aspect of karate. She likes to do the jumping, kicking, punching, back bends, and some evil stretch that looks like a scorpion whip. It's very exciting for me to see her so excited about karate.

29 August 2007 - Mason breaks a board!

Okay, so it was break away board, but her confidence level shot up when she broke that break away board on her second try!

My little ninja in training will be an Orange belt on Sept 21st!

This month she tells me "Action speak louder than words. Just don't talk the talk but walk the walk!"

She's learned about Communication and now Action. Every month will be a new thing. She's also grown so much in the past few weeks, it's just amazing to see her change so much....my little girl is growing up.

Interested in getting a free class? I have VIP passes. Hit me up for a free class at Talamantez Family Karate. So far, they have done wonders to only supplement my already strict parenting......

23 July 2007 - Mason gets her Yellow Belt!

She's 3 (4 tomorrow!). Smart, funny, fiesty, and independent. It's at her will, when she wants, and how she wants. You have 10 seconds to keep her focused. But,

This past Friday, July 20, Mason graduated with her yellow belt. Before she is 5 she will be a Brown Belt! Yep, you read that right. A Brown belt!

She tells me communication is not what you say but how you say it. She responds with "eyes on you sir". Yes, sir! Working on standing still for 10 seconds. One big ball of energy--she's gotta a motor that keeps running and I'm ready for the gas to run out!

So darn cute, she's learning and repeating the student creed. Hits her chest and all like she means it. But still the purple belt (her favorite color) is what she is after.

Today was her first class as a yellow belt. She learned to jump over stuff and hit and kick...oh, oh! But she made her instructor laugh so hard, it was funny. Because she tries to do the push-ups and the exercises and well it's just cute.

She's training with the older kids...she's moving on. My little future black belt and hopefully with tons of respect and discipline....proud mommy!

She started karate this past week! Among a small sea of giant kids, she stands just as tough and courageous as the rest of them. Screaming "kaiya" like she means business. It's great to see her try to soak it all in and mimic the moves that are being taught to her. "Yes, sir, Thank You, Sir, Your Welcome, Sir" are the new words to her vocabulary. She has said them before, but you mostly got a "yeah" from her. Her defiant nature seems non-existent while she takes the 30 minute class twice a week. Learning, practicing, and displaying constantly. Not to mention her attempts at jumping jacks, push-ups, and sit-ups are cute. The instructor "Sensei' Alvarado is one damm good instructor. I have NEVER seen anyone be so positive and inspiring to the kids he teaches. They not only learn karate, but they learn LEADERSHIP! With a stress on communication, these kids are getting the discipline they need to become great leaders!

27 June 07 - Mason's new gig

So far Mason has answered the question of what she wants to be when she grows up with simplicity—damm cute: She wants to be taller and she wants to "kaiya".
One thing I loved about her first lesson in earning her belt is that most karate places give you the white belt with the uniform. She had to earn hers. She watched in her first class as other kids were given tapes to add to their belts. She even asked her "sensei" about it and he reminded her that she had to earn it and would do that with great leadership skills at her next class.

Today, she listened as much as her 3 year old self would let her and she was beside her self when she got her white belt. But like a great leader, she wasn't satisfied—she told me she didn't get a tape. Something she sees as a goal for doing well in her class.

We decided to sign her up when a 5 year old demonstrated his knowledge of basic karate skills and the ability to memorize theory in communicating and leadership. Mason was also impressed and excited to learn what Achilles had just shown her…..
So here we go into our 11 month program. We have already been complimented in her ability to take part in the class—as a true testament to our parenting skills. I assume most kids her age just run around the room or don't really get it. She's trying and having a great time! Who would have thought that I would have such a curious, well-behaved, little girl?

I no
longer endorse Talamantez Karate.
